About us

With over 43 years of nursing experience, I have dedicated the past 22 years to caring for the aging population and their families. For over a decade, I’ve pursued my passion as an Aging Life Care Manager, helping families navigate the many challenges of aging.

Having worked in home care leadership, I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it can be for families to advocate for loved ones, especially when distance, work demands, and their own family responsibilities make it overwhelming. I founded Sound Advice Aging Life Care to help navigate these challenges and improve the quality of life for my clients and their loved ones.

I am especially passionate about aging in place, Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Supporting clients who wish to remain safe and comfortably in their own homes, while continuing to live meaningful and fulfilling lives, is one of the great joys of my work. We serve clients throughout Fairfield, New Haven, and Litchfield Counties in Connecticut and Westchester County, NY. Serving Westport, Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Westport, Ridgefield, Redding, Easton, Fairfield, Stamford, Newtown, Milford, Orange, Bedford, Pound Ridge, South Salem, Katonah, Chappaqua and more.

Heather McGhie

Sound Advice Aging Life Care founder

“Heather has been an invaluable resource to our family since being impacted by early onset Alzheimer’s. I know that I can count on Heather 24/7 to solve difficult problems. She has exceeded my expectations for a care manager. Beyond her vast experience, she has a deep network of caregivers. Further, she is a deeply caring person, who understands illness and loss, and keeps dignity and quality-of-life in focus.

Whether it’s coordinating doctor visits, reviewing lab test results, providing caretaking options, or delicate problem solving, I know that Heather will deliver professional solutions to hard situations. If you haven’t met or interviewed her yet, you owe it to yourself to do so.”

During my husband‘s protracted illness and ultimate passing, I worked with many healthcare professionals…some caring and dedicated, others not so much. It is a very difficult job both from a personal and professional standpoint, dealing with both the patients, their families and the bureaucratic institutions where the patients must remain.

Of all of the individuals I was fortunate enough to work with, Heather was, by far not only the most professional, but also the most caring. Her knowledge of patient needs, the system, ability to communicate as well as demand the proper care for my husband was always spot on. Her tenacity and follow through over multiple months of roadblocks was a gift I can never repay.

Heather’s personal interactions with my husband were always tender and caring, and he trusted her implicitly. She became part of our family. If you have the chance to work with her, I can’t overstate how lucky you and your family would be to have her in your corner.

“Heather has been extremely helpful in assisting me in dealing with a sensitive family situation. She approached the family members by carefully, listening to their concerns, exploring options, and slowly helping them see other possibilities.

Heather’s kindness, sensitivity, friendly and direct approach was greatly appreciated. I would recommend her, a certified Aging Life Care professional, with no hesitation.”

“When I think of “Heather McGhie” two words immediately come to mind:  empathy and information.  Empathy because Heather will listen patiently and carefully to what you have to say.  Information because you are not her first rodeo.  Her years of nursing and listening carefully have given her the knowledge she needs to give me the practical and honest advice I need.  I recommend Heather without reservation.”

“I’m so impressed and incredibly thankful that we met and worked with Heather McGhie. She helped us immensely with my mother’s care, when living in assisted living, rehab, and then the Nursing home. Heather worked with my mom’s caregivers, nurses, and doctors to make sure she received the best care possible.

Heather visited my mother regularly, and my mom really loved and looked forward to these visits and connected well.  My mother grew to be much happier, calmer, and kinder.  We are so grateful that we chose Heather.  Her hard work, dedication and compassion made such a difference.”

“When I first met Heather, my parents’ lives were in chaos. They had both declined quickly, insisted on staying in their home, and I was trying to manage things long-distance. I was so overwhelmed. Heather came on board and immediately started making problems go away—everything I dumped in her lap, she handled.

With her wealth of knowledge and years of experience, we got the finances, living situation, and medical issues under control so I was able to relax a bit and try to focus on being in the moment with my parents during the time they had left. Heather’s calm, capable demeanor and wise advice made all the difference for me during this difficult time.”
